Just before we got let out for November break we received our progress reports. Overall I feel that I did okay. The subject that I feel I need to improve in are; English, Socials, Visual Arts, and Science. In these subjects I have been achieving a level 3/4 which is average but I feel that I am capable of achieving a higher grade. In Science my grades were all over the place so not necessarily in the 3/4 range but I achieved a 7/8 in some parts and I also had a part where I had a 1/2. In English I had all of the criterion in the 3/4 range which I feel like I am capable of achieving a higher mark for. The same goes for Socials and Visual Arts. My overall academic goals for this term is for me to achieve honour roll and I feel that if I improve in these subjects I will be able to achieve my goal.
This year has been thoroughly enjoyable. I really enjoyed being involved in Jazz Choir, Choir, and many other service commitments. A memorable part of being in Jazz Choir and Choir was travelling to Whistler. It was very fun competing against the other singers coming from different parts of BC. Another part that I had fun participating in would be the mass choir. It was very cool to sing with the other schools, we sounded really good. The electives I chose were great because it got me exposed to many other parts of life. Summit 1 has been a great elective in going and exploring the outdoors and participating in the activities that I normally wouldn’t do (mountain biking, rock climbing). Also, theatre sports and improv was a really fun elective. I learnt how to think on the spot and under pressure. I have also made many new friendships through this elective, these friendships are some that I plan on keeping. Some of the co-curricular activities I participated in are sports such as volleyball and basketball. I enjoy volleyball but I love basketball. I was a part of the grade 8/9 A team which was a big accomplishment for me to get on. Now I am still currently on the grade 7/8 club Mustangs team. I feel that I have improved greatly over this year. This opportunity has been great and I have had so much fun with all the girls on the team. Overall, this year has been very enjoyable for me and I am very excited for next year.
Today in Life and Learning, I took a test to determine what type of person I am. The code I received was ENFP. The website says that I can do well in the sciences and engineering field of work. I personally do not think that I want to focus on something in that range of subjects. My weaknesses are focusing, getting stressed easily, I overthink things, and I have poor practical skills. My strengths consist of: curiosity, observant, energetic and enthusiastic, and friendly.
This past week report cards came out. I feel that my report card was just okay but I feel that I can do much better in term 2. The subjects that I didn’t do as well in were science, english and socials. The subjects that I did well in were math and french. I am happy with my mark in math because I put a lot of effort into the work I did in class and that amount of time I studied for tests. I am improving in these subjects by going to science help and talking to the teachers to see what I can do better for tests and essays. In term 2 I am still aiming to be on honour roll. The goals that I set in the beginning of the year still stand as most of them are year long goals that I am striving to achieve at the end of the year. Overall, this was not my best report card but I am going to be doing extra to ensure that this term my report card will be significantly better.

I feel that I have settled in great and that I am getting along great with all of the new students.
- What are two words that describe you as a member of the Middle school? Why? (eg – inclusive – because I have a wide group of friends)
I am a member of the middle school community because I am open minded and I try my best not to exclude anyone from anything.

The attribute from the IB Learner Profile I think most describes me would be open minded because I try to look at certain things without bias or favouritism.

- What goal(s) do you have for the remainder of the year?
My goals for the rest of the year would be to continue trying my hardest in all of my subjects, especially design tech because I know that it is a difficult subject. Also to be more active in posting to my efolio for the rest of the year.
A couple of weeks ago close to the end of november everybody received their progress report. I feel that my progress report was okay although I feel that I can do much better. I am initiating going to math help and am thinking of starting up science help to make sure that I get a better understanding of the subject. This way by taking help sessions I can show the teacher that I am putting the effort in and that I do want to excel in that subject. I believe that with these extra little bits that I will be able to get my effort marks up in the very near future.
In the summer I participated in many summer camps. The first week after school I went to camps for 3 straight weeks where we did many activities such as, archery, kayaking, rock climbing, dock jumping, and many more. After the camps I relaxed in Vancouver for a week before my family and many of my friends went up to Penticton. We stayed up there for a week and it was a lot of fun. Then I had a lot of fun when I went up to Point Roberts with some friends for a weekend getaway. The weather was so nice there and it was awesome to just relax and kind of chill out for a few days. Next my mom, my brother and I went to Montreal just for vacation. In Montreal we shopped. A lot. Mostly because my brother was going away to university so he needed a lot of bedding and sheets. After we visited Montreal we went down to Kingston, Ontario to get my brother settled into university. While in Kingston we visited the Kingston Penitentiary which closed in September 2013 but it was still cool to see (pictures above). Then finally our last stop was to drop my brother off at university and get him settled in his dorm. Saying goodbye was hard but we know that he’s having fun and working hard and that’s all that matters. The next day we got up early and drove to the Toronto Pearson Airport to catch the flight back to Vancouver. We got back home and went to sleep basically because the next day I had to get ready for school and make sure I had all of the right materials and uniform.
This term I am happy with my report card. I received an overall mark of 37 which I am proud of. Honor roll is what I am striving for in the next term. I know what subjects I need to improve in and I am willing to put in the effort to achieve my goal. The subjects I needed to improve in was mainly Math and Science. A way I can improve in math is to go to math help every Monday so that I can fully understand the concepts that are being taught in class. I can improve in science by going over the textbook and making sure I know all of the concepts thoroughly. The subject that I am proud of is French, I did well because I participated enough and understood everything thoroughly. The next step is to try extra hard in order to achieve principals list which I am hoping to achieve next term but I think I should make sure to get honor roll first. Overall, I am proud of my report card and next term I am striving to achieve honor roll.
Science fair has been a great experience for me and although there was some bumps in the road I still progressed through. Some good things in science fair was that the judges really gave some constructive criticism. Also Ms. Reis was really supportive with everyone in making sure everybody was on track. What I didn’t like in science fair was that I was really, really nervous when I had to got to down to present. Other than that science fair was a reasonably okay experience!
What were your strengths? What did you do well when you presented?:
I feel what I did well was body language because I moved around a bit and I used quite a bit of hand gestures also.
How did you use visuals?:
I used visuals by showing the examples (pictures) of the fashion and how the hippies were like.
What presentation skills could you further develop?:
I could further develop my tone and voice expression.
what are some challenges while presenting? How can you overcome these?:
A challenge that I faced during the presentation was lack of expression because that morning we had basketball practice therefore I being lethargic wasn’t as expressive as I could be. I can overcome this by sleeping more at night and then having more energy for basketball then I will still have some energy left for presenting and being expressive.
What tips would you give to people presenting, based on your own experience?:
I would say that if you are presenting and you are losing the audience’s interest use questions to keep them involved. Also use hand gestures and change your tone and pace so that the audience doesn’t get bored.
