Grade 8 just finished a massive English project called “Night Of The Notables”. The project involved researching the life of a famous person throughout history, then dressing up as that person and presenting. At the same time, we created an essay/PSA/monologue/website/presentation about their life. You probably know about this.
The notable that I chose was John Muir. Born in 1838 in Scotland, Muir emigrated with his family to America when he was 11. When he graduated from university, he explored America, marveling at the beauty of nature. On his travels, he visited the Yosemite area of California.
Muir would spend most of his life trying to protect the natural beauty of this area. He founded the Sierra Club, an organization dedicated to the protection of nature worldwide. He was also crucial to the establishment of many national parks across America, including the Grand Canyon, Mount Rainier, Glacier Bay, and of course Yosemite. His books inspired millions to care about the wilderness. Many people consider him the first environmentalist. He was definitely the most influential.
Things I did well, in my opinion:
- I really liked my question box. It seemed original and many people told me that they liked it.
Things I would change if I had to do this again:
- I would spend more time on my poster and my “space”. It wasn’t that planned out and it could have been better.

I’m performing Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles for Performing Arts despite not being that good at the piano. Will I survive?
