My CAS 2015-16

This year for my CAS commitments I am continuing all of my activities form last year. For creativity I am joining concert choir, jazz choir (Major), and I will proceed to take piano lessons (Minor). For my action commitments I am playing soccer (Major) and volley ball (Minor) again this year. I may choose to join basketball later in the year, but for now I will see if I have the time in my schedule. My service commitments this year will include volunteering at the barn (Major), and doing various service activities such as scorekeeping and line judging. I am excited to achieve more and become more comfortable and skilled in these commitments.

My Camp Goals

This year for fall camp my grade is kayaking in 3 groups up the Indian Arm. Some goals I have for this trip are to make some new friends with new students or classmates I haven’t talked to before. One of the reasons that I love camp so much is that it makes it easier to get closer with people. Some of the new friends that I made last year, I probably wouldn’t usually hang out with, but because we all went to camp together, we kind of bonded over the fact that it was really cold and we had no cooking skills. I will know that this goal is achieved when I have introduced my new friends to my current friends, and we can all just chill together.

My Summer

This summer I did a lot of really fun things with some really amazing people. I went to a summer camp with one of my groups of friends, and it’s kind of tradition for us to go to this camp every year. I also went to another summer camp that I go to every summer, but this time I brought a lot more friends along with me. I have to say, it is sort of weird in the beginning to be mixing my friend groups. But by the end of the week we were all really good friends. These camps are one of the best experiences of my summers every year by far. I love all of the activities that we can participate in like archery, dock jumping, tubing, sailing, wake boarding, skateboarding, mountain biking, high ropes, low ropes, canoeing, kayaking, and so many more. Summer camps have really helped me to be more social and step out of my comfort zone if only even a little bit. Each summer, another tradition I have with my group of friends and family, is going up to Penticton for a week in the summer. Penticton is a small city in the Okanagan Valley (near Kelowna). There are so many fun things to do; henna tattoos, more dock jumping, farmers markets, doing touristy activities, wineries to follow your parents around in, extensive beaches to just lay in the sand and tan. The things I look forward to the most in Penticton are going down the river channel, which is essentially a dam-fed river that you float down, and getting to see some of my closest friends that I can only see once a year. I love all my summer experiences, and I don’t regret a thing.

My Term 2 Service Commitment

This term I will be volunteering at Pony Pals Riding Stables in Delta, BC. Pony Pals Stables are home of the Pony Pals Therapeutic Riding Association. PPTRA helps disabled riders, mostly children, to ride horses as a form of therapy. The stables also hold regular riding lessons for english style riding. My jobs at the stables vary from grooming horses and picking hooves, to helping the riders have a pleasant experience. There are other volunteers that help out around the barn. We all complete tasks such as grooming, feeding, taking the horses for walks or grazing, tacking, leading, side walking, untacking, and helping the riders with various activities. Occasionally, the coaches are not available for lessons, so the other volunteers and I assist the children with hands on activities such as grooming the horses. I am excited to make new friends with the other volunteers, and I am already starting to develop new relationships with the riders as well.

My 2014-15 DPA Plan

This year, I have already completed some of my activities that I planned on doing throughout this year. Soccer tryouts were hosted last Aril, which got me onto my current soccer team. Since June, my team has been practicing for 2 days a week for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Wednesday practices consist of 1 hour of regular drills, and 30 minutes of running, conditioning, and agility training. friday practices are coached by a volunteer coach sent by Burnaby Girls Soccer Club to coach every team the same drills. Every Sunday, our team plays a soccer game for around 1 hour and 30 minutes, plus a 45 minute warm up. My soccer season ends after we finish all of our cup games (and hopefully win). Soccer is my major action commitment for this year. Volleyball season started off with tryouts on the first day of school. Our team practiced for 1 hour and 45 minutes on Tuesday mornings, and on Fridays after school for 1 hour.  We had games once or twice every week. School basketball tryouts were held in November. My team practices on Mondays after school for 1 hour and 30 minutes and Friday before school for 1 hour. I hope to have a lot of fun, injury- free play time with these activities, and I hope to stay balanced while doing so.

My 2014-15 Goals

This year I plan to do better academically, physically, socially, and mentally. I want to get E’s in all of my classes this year. To achieve this, I will bring all of my materials to my classes, finish all homework and assignments, not get distracted during class by talking, or just not paying attention.  I also want to try to score a 5 in some of my classes this year. To improve physically I will be on time for sports games and practices so that I have a substantial amount of time to warm up so I do not injure myself by tearing or straining any muscles. I will also run hard and work without complaints during practices.  I will try to eat healthier or at least try to eat a substantial amount of every food group to keep a healthy diet. To improve socially, I will try to talk to new people more often to make friends. I will be more open to talking to new people and introducing them to my current friends. To improve mentally, I will try to keep a constant positive attitude towards trying new things, or just anything.

My 2014-15 CAS Plan

This year I will have 2 major creativity commitments, 3 major action commitments, and 1 major service commitment. I will also be either scorekeeping, or volunteering at any school events to fulfill my minor service commitment spot. For creativity, I will participate in Concert Choir and Jazz Choir, both taught by Ms. By. To stay active I will take part in playing on my soccer team, volleyball team, and basketball team. For service, I am part of a Pathfinders group that meets every monday to plan events and to volunteer at places such as public libraries, parks, church sales, and many more events. I hope to stay balanced and not overly busy with a crammed schedule. I want to leave time to complete homework, as well as playing sports and volunteering.

My Daily Physical Activity

Throughout the year, I try to participate in as many sports as possible without cramming my schedule. During the first term, I joined the grade 7 boys soccer team, along with regular season soccer. In total, I would practice 3 times, with 1 or 2 games each week. I was also a part of the volleyball B team, coached by Ms. Bingham. We had morning practices every Monday and Thursday, and games around every 2 weeks. During the second term, I tried out for the basketball team. I was on the grade 7 A basketball team for the school season. I continued regular season soccer in the Burnaby Girls Soccer Club until February. I have 1 full block of P.E. each week. In the second term, the basketball off season, I joined Mustangs. Coached by Mr. Leduc, Mustangs compete at a high level, and the U14 team practices on Monday and Thursday mornings from 6:45- 8:15. We now have games once a week or more if there is a tournament. I am also part of the elective, Summit 1, where we go on out-trips hiking, skiing, kayaking, rock climbing, paddle boarding and so on.

Term 1 Report Card Reflection

I believe that I have improved in my classes this term. In this report card I received my first 5’s on the iB marking scale. I could definitely work on improving my amount of focus in class, and completing homework and projects on time. Time management is very important, and I will definitely keep on trying to improve my skills in the area.
