Below I have my Process Journal about our grade six junior school production: Don’t Laugh, It’s a Tragedy (photo from the play above)…Hope you enjoy!

Describe three of the IB Learner Profile attributes that helped you through rehearsals and in the performance. Explain how you embodied/demonstrated them. (Inquirer, Knowledgeable, Thinker, Communicator, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk-Taker, Balanced, Reflective)

Three IB Learner Profile attributes that helped me through rehearsals and the performance were being a thinker, being open-minded, and being reflective. I had to be a thinker when we had to come up with a way to switch the way we left and a got on the stage after the dance while not having the audience look at an empty stage. I also had to be open-minded to the feedback from my teachers and peers. I was reflective once I had been given the feedback and tried my best to incorporate the feedback into my lines and attitude/character to make it better and show that I cared about what my teachers and peers were telling me to do.

Thinking of your role in the performance (chorus member, Athena, Poseidon, Apollo etc.)… Where did you get inspiration or from whom did you get inspiration? What influenced how you brought your character to life?

I was a member of the chorus and I got inspiration from choir because when we sing the chorus we all sing together in unison and we had to all speak together in unison when we were saying our lines.

What did you discover about yourself during the Don’t Laugh, It’s A Tragedy rehearsals and performance?

I discovered that I am good at handling minor stage fright before I get on the stage. I realized that I am only nervous before I get on the stage but once I am on the stage I feel like I am just talking to my parents or classmates as part of my daily life.

What are you most proud about our performance of Don’t Laugh, It’s A Tragedy?

I am most proud of our “Call Me Maybe” dance number because we worked very hard on it and it looked super good and it looked like we all were professional dancers. I am very proud of the dance because we came so far because at first we were all sort of sloppy and weren’t into the dance and on Wednesday and Thursday we really brought it and blew the audience away.
