MUSICAL THEATRE Reminder that if you’re interested in the new musical theatre co-curricular you need to email Mr. Pope or you can fill out a sign up form off the Black box door and hand in to Mr. Pope. This activity is being run by Ms. Creber and Mr. Pope. There will be an optional information session with Ms. Creber and Mr. Pope at 3:30 next Wednesday in the black box. As well we would like your input on ideas for a short one act musical or revue that you would like to do. Please email any suggestions or questions to Mr. Pope.

INVITATION TO “JUSTICE HIGH MULGRAVE” ON SAT JAN 21st. G7-9 students are invited to participate in a free, unique, youth driven global education and leadership conference at Mulgrave School called “Justice High”, facilitated by students from the innovative, service learning-based Global Stewardship Programme of Capilano University and sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).“Justice High Mulgrave” is a one day series of Global Education symposiums for Middle School youth that seek to foster critical awareness and engagement on issues related to the UN Millennium Development Goals (UNMDGs http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/ ). It is a full day symposium that engages youth in interactive workshops to educate, inspire, and promote taking action! These workshops explore UNMDG topics such as homelessness in the downtown eastside; poverty and statelessness in developing nations; fresh water conservation and access to potable water; community gardens and permaculture; and access to quality education. Each workshop includes a key component that promotes and provides the resources for students to take action both personally and practically.

ANNIVERSARY OF THE OPENING OF GUANTANAMO BAY ‘DETENTION’ CENTRE. January 11th, 2012 marks the unfortunate 10 year anniversary of the opening of Guantanamo Bay. Amnesty International will be holding a rally next Wednesday in support of the closure of Guantanamo and end of unlawful detentions there. RED CROSS HUMANITY STRIKES BACK CONFERENCE for G9-12.
The Canadian Red Cross is holding their annual Humanity Strikes Back Conference on Feb 18th and 19th from 9-5pm at 3400 Lake City Way, Burnaby BC. This is a youth conference targeted at Gr. 9-12s teaching them how to build skills for activism. Cost of event is $50 – includes conference fees, materials and meals. The Vancouver Sun run is Canada’s best community run, as well as being the 2nd largest timed 10K run in the world.
