TMC Headlines


This year, the Service Action Council (SAC) leadership team is excited to announce that they are dan Upper School Spirit Week campaign from March 12th to 16th! This week seeks to engage the Mulgrave community in the heroic and selfless world of first responders – our local and global ‘unsung heroes’. Our campaign involves a wide range of activities, which will raise awareness about a diversity of first responder organisations, including The Canadian Red CrossDoctors Without BordersNorth Shore RescueWest Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, and The White Helmets.

All funds raised during the week will support the heroic work of The White Helmets – a neutral and unarmed volunteer team of men and women who rescue and provide medical care for victims of bombings and missile strikes in Syria. Their continuous and unwavering help provides hope to millions of people.

As always, we will have a broad range of spirit and cause related activities for you to get engaged in including Bubble Ball, lunchtime lectures, free first aid courses, guest speakers from Doctors without Borders and the North Shore Search and Rescue, a talent show, Gotcha, a Superhero Civvies Day and more. We also have a Spirit Week lunch and gear for sale to support our ‘unsung heroes’ cause. You can still order your Spirit Week Tacofino and Booster Juice Lunch here! Get them while supplies last. Orders are due by Tuesday, March 7th at 4pm. No IOUs.  Lunch happens during Spirit Week on Wednesday, March 14 at 1.15pm. Pick up on skybridge.

March 8: International Women’s Day #PressforProgress #IWD2018

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women’s Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first​ ​March 8​ ​IWD gathering supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organisation specific.​ Make IWD your day! – everyday!

We would like to invite you to attend the Navroz/Norouz celebration at school on Thursday, March 16th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. This will be a celebration of culture marking the start of the New Year and the first day of spring. Even if this is not a holiday that your family celebrates, we encourage you to attend. As with all Navroz/Norouz celebrations, we will be enjoying authentic Iranian and Ismaili food that will tantalize your taste buds!


In addition, there will be exciting entertainment segments for the night. We will feature both communities coming together through music and dancing! There will also be fun activities with booths set up for both kids and adults to enjoy. You won’t want to miss it! As excitement builds for our IB Arts Reception, Make Your Mark, we’re showcasing a couple of our artists who will be sharing their work.

Enjoy a short Q&A with Grade 12 students Linda, who studies Music, and Leo, who studies Visual Art. Discover how the arts have helped them in the DP and learn about their projects, artistic  style, and how art will continue to play a part in their future.

Join the G11-12 “Youth Get It” Internship Program at Coast Capital Savings

The student job that kick-starts careers.

We offer opportunities for Grade 11 and 12 youth to be paid members of our Youth Get It Interns. They work as community ambassadors and as Member Service Representatives helping our members in our branches.

Being a Youth Get It Intern is a job that requires professionalism and a friendly and helpful attitude. Students will gain skills like leadership, community relations and financial literacy that prepare them for their future endeavours.

We’re looking for youth who:

  • are entering grade 11 or 12 in September 2018
  • live in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley or Greater Victoria
  • have community service and volunteer experience
  • As part of the selection process you may be invited to attend an information session on Saturday, April 22. If selected to attend, this information session is mandatory in order to be eligible for the Coast Capital Savings Youth Get It Intern program.

How to apply

Applications will be accepted in the Spring.
Complete the online application, and include the following:

  1. Cover letter and resume
  2. Two written references – this could be from a teacher, career counsellor or current employer
  3. A copy of your most recent report card or current transcript

Very soon your wonderful advisor teacher will ask you to update your Passport and add evidence of your engagement and learning related to your Passport goals for the year. This means you now need to start posting multimedia reflections on your progress with your academic goals and at least two other areas of engagement from your Passport domain options that you decided to explore this year starting in October. Of course your goals may have changed and you can also update your goals and then update your reflections on where you’re at.

The StartUp Forum replaces the Mulgrave Dragon’s Den (The Den) format from previous years. The forum is made up of a student-led panel drawn from a range of leadership teams and grades, facilitated by SAC (the Service Action Council). This team will review all new school, citizenship, service, social good or fundraising proposals by students and make decisions on whether or in what way the pitch moves forward with possible support, resources and opportunities. They also decide on the scope and impact on school.
