The annual Spring Drive is organized by the Senior School Service Action Council (SSAC), whose aim is to facilitate fun and engaging events for the student community connected to worthy causes.
The event encourages Mulgrave students to collect quality donations to assist local causes. Spring Drive is based on the idea of ‘spring cleaning’, and enables students to learn about and engage with issues in our local communities.
Spring Drive is a week long effort from April 29th to May 3rd, during which time items will be collected for a variet of important causes and organizations: Homeless on Hastings, Backpack Buddies, Free Geek, and the Battered Women Support Services:
The following (gently used) items are accepted by these organizations:
- Clothing: shorts/pants, shirts/tops, jackets, sweaters, warm hats, gloves, and socks (new, please)
- Canned soup and Kraft Dinner
- Sleeping bags
- Technology equipment which will be recycled or refurbished (click here for what is accepted and what is not!)
Labelled collection boxes will be in the main foyer. For their donated items, Upper School students will receive tickets which can be used to enter in a raffle for the chance to pie your favourite teacher in the annual pie-the-teacher event! This year, the teachers who have graciously agreed to participate include: Mr. Olynyk, Mr. Carson, Ms. Roy, Mr. Lee, Mr. Mak…and more to come!
The week will also raise awareness about the Red Dress Project “AN AESTHETIC RESPONSE TO THE MORE THAN 1000 MISSING AND MURDERED ABORIGINAL WOMEN IN CANADA” On Friday we will will host a “Red” Civvies Day for a toonie and support the work of the Battered Women Support Services BWSS in Vancouver.
