SIGN UP NOW: Support Mulgrave’s Upper School Backpack Buddies Programme #foodsecurity #SDG2 #ZeroHunger

Posted on September 4, 2019September 5, 2019 by awilson

Hi Senior School Students, US Advisors, teachers, coaches, performing arts leads, club leaders, staff and admin groups and more!

Because hunger doesn’t take the weekend off…

The student-led Senior Service Action Council (SSAC) wants Mulgrave advisories / groups / teams / clubs / staff to once again sign up to participate in the Mulgrave Backpack Buddies meal programme for the school year. Help us provide meals on the weekends to 25 at risk elementary school youth in the Vancouver area. Read more about this great local programme here https://www.backpackbuddies.ca.

PLEASE SIGN UP HERE!

WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO?
Your group will be asked to support us once or twice in the year (you can choose how many times in the sign-up form) and help us provide over-the-weekend meals to “at risk kids” in schools on the North Shore and in East Vancouver. For each collection, you are providing donations that will supply meals for 12 children over the weekend which is 72 meals plus 24 snacks, 12 fruit snacks and 12 juice boxes (110 items). We provide the fresh fruit. If you ask each student/person in your advisory/group to bring in 12 food items or $10, you will cover what you need. By joining us you are part of a team at Mulgrave supporting 25 at-risk kids who need meals on the weekends and that’s awesome! After you sign up, you will be given a welcome package which will tell you all you need to know — when your collection dates are and what the expectations are. Once your advisory / student group / team has successfully participated in donations, we will also enter you in a draw for prizes and invite you to sign up students to join us in the Big Buddies programme — if you have students who are interested. This is a mentorship programme in which our students will visit Seymour and make connections with students throughout the year. We also hope to do other initiatives to help support Seymour kids, including a clothing drive which your advisory may want to participate in. We will keep you in the loop and our student team will do presentations throughout the year to make sure your students appreciate the value and impact of what you are doing.HOW WILL THIS HELP?

Backpack Buddies works with 66 schools around the Greater Vancouver area: 18 schools that donate into the program each month, and 48 recipient schools. They deliver over 3000 backpacks of food every month from September to June. And Mulgrave supplies 100 of those packs….  but we need your help to do this!Sign up here as an advisory, team or group for the 2019-2020 Upper School Backpack Buddies programme.Thank you!
