Hey Upper School:

For Spirit Week 2020, we are trying to get our community engaged in more sustainable and responsible consumption. Fast fashion makes shopping for clothes more affordable, but it comes at a big environmental cost. The fashion industry produces 10% of all humanity’s carbon emissions, is the second-largest consumer of the world’s water supply, and pollutes the oceans with micro-plastics.

One way to take on fast fashion is to make sure students and our community practice “slow fashion” and recycle, reuse, repair our clothes. For Spirit Week, we are hosting an Upper School SW Clothing Swap so students can share their clothes and find something they like without buying something new.

You can bring in clothing, and exchange it for different pieces of clothing. You can bring in clothes this Friday March 6th, and Monday March 9th before school. You can also drop off clothes in 2540 too during the day. You will be able to ‘swap’ clothing items on Wednesday March 11th, and Thursday March 12th in the SSAC.

The clothing items that we will be accepting are shirts, shorts, pants, sweaters/hoodies, skirts and dresses. All clothes must be clean. We will be collecting clothes before school on Friday and Monday at the grand staircase.

If you do not have any clothes to contribute to the swap, the Clothing Swap will be open to those who had no clothing to contribute on Thursday at lunch, but keep in mind, those who bring in clothes will get to thrift for swapped clothes earlier (Wednesday Lunch) so the cool clothes might all be gone!

The number of clothing items that you bring in on Friday and Monday before school corresponds with the number of clothing items that you can get on Wednesday and Thursday at lunch. For example, if you bring in 3 items, you can take 3 items.

We look forward to seeing the clothing items that you bring in!
