One of the challenges facing retirement homes at this time of the COVID pandemic and physical distancing is that visitors are not allowed to see extended family members or see their loved ones in order to limit the spread of the virus to vulnerable seniors. As well, first responders and health care frontline workers are real life heroes right now, putting their life at risk to help support us all in the fight to plank COVID-19.
Mulgrave’s student-led Senior Service Action Council has created an initiative to bring the Mulgrave community, first responders, and seniors together. Our initiative is a combination of two concepts: partnering with the West Vancouver Youth Action Council (YAC) to collect letters, art pieces, and physical contributions from Mulgrave students and families and creating a video montage of individual video clips from the Mulgrave student community (all ages) sharing positive and uplifting messages. Videos can include students doing something fun such as dancing, singing, sports tricks, sending inspiration and warm messages, sharing a new hobby — whatever will bring a smile to a senior’s face!
Following physical distancing guidelines and COVID-19 protocols, these contributions will be sent to several local senior retirement homes and first responders. We believe these efforts are a great act of kindness and show our care and support for seniors and first responders.
So, show your creativity during this time when you are also physically isolated and create a connection between our community and Mulgravians!
Artwork and letters can be dropped off at school before MAY 12th during the schools business hours! If you are uncomfortable dropping off your creations at the school. Please contact email@example.com and we can arrange to pick them up from your house from a social distance. Please send videos (45 seconds or less) and photos to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: SENIORS INITIATIVE!
