The GLOCAL Foundation of Canada wants you to know about grant opportunities for student initiatives to raise awareness, encourage voter participation and fight disinformation in the British Columbia 2020 Provincial Election.
We are a group of young Canadians that saw challenges in our democratic platforms and started GLOCAL to help residents in Canada be globally aware and locally engaged. Our digital platform- YouCount.ca aims to connect and engage the public with their political representatives while allowing them to navigate our political institutions with ease and support. We are currently working on a grassroots initiative to support the upcoming provincial elections in Saskatchewan and British Columbia through our digital platform given traditional channels of civic engagement have become either difficult or costly due to social distancing during COVID-19.
We want to share this opportunity for high school students to submit an application for a grant to create student-run virtual events and other on-line activities that meet the program criteria described on the google document attached here
The goal of this program is to support democratic participation and increase voter turnout in British Columbia. In an accelerated digital era, we need to enhance and/or support efforts to counter online disinformation and other online threats to Canada’s democracy and social cohesion, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
