This year I was a part of the Duke of Edinburgh bronze sailing trip. We learned about the points of sail, and how to calculate distance in nautical miles. When we were on the boat we refreshed our memory on our knots and practised how to set and douse all of the sails. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side giving us no wind to actually sail, but we sill learned a lot.
Along with the Mulgrave crew, we had a captain, a first mate, and a wonderful chef abroad. They taught us not only how to sail but the different parts of the boat and how to be safe aboard the vessel. We played many games and ate amazing food.
Next year I am planning to continue with the Duke of Edinburgh program for my silver trip.
