Boat Building Competition

So today in homeroom we tested out our aluminum foil boats, my groups boat: Noah’s Ark did not win the competition sadly but we came second. We could have won if we double checked out design and tested it out first but we didn’t get the opportunity to do that so we had flaws. The team building exercise was really fun and it allowed us to improve our communication and teamwork skills.

Advising Teamwork Reflection

Today in advising we did an exercise that included stacking cups without our hands. We were competing against each other in two teams, and this activity showed us the importance of teamwork and collaboration. If one person in the group has an idea but the group does not agree with it, than the group would waste more time discussing and not testing. So the lesson here is to collaborate well and accept each others opinion rather than saying how bad the idea was. One group would be faster than the other if that group was using the time testing ideas rather than just sitting around and arguing about it.

Goals for Camp

This year camp will be much harder than grade 7 and grade 8 because of the length of kayaking everyday and prepping the tent for every location.

My goals for camp this year are:

1. Surviving without wifi This might sound easy but it isn’t. This is the 21 century please.

2. Making new friends/making everyone comfortable This has been my goal every year for camp because I am a very nice person and want everyone to feel happy and not scared to converse with different people *angel emoji*

3. Helping my group with tent/kayak problems I really like helping people with their problems because first, I can feel smart if I do solve it (which I will) and second, they owe me. 😀

Goals Update

I have been keeping up well right now with my goals, I have completed my CAS goals and my Social Goals. I am working on completing my Academic goals of reaching a high level in French and improving in English. I will know I have completed these 2 goals when report cards come out and my marks improve from assessments early in the year. Tactics I can use to help me reach this goal are time management and using my agenda. This has helped me a lot because I don’t have to keep going around asking my peers for due dates and what homework need to be completed.

Pink Day

Pink Day supports people that are gay, lesbian, and transgender. Many people throughout the world are born transgender but not supported by the community around them. We wore pink today to support a kid that wore pink to school one day and was picked on by bullies because of his choice or attire.

Term 1 Report Card

This year my first report card was pretty decent because of the 5’s. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t the best so I’m am slightly disappointed on some aspects because when I saw the rubric I was a bit confused. Some had highlights in the 7-8 bands but some had marks in the 2-3 bands so I was confused why my mark varied that much. My marks were mostly made up of 5’s but subjects like and Math I got a 6, but for DT I got a 4 because my time management skill was subpar. I really need to work on time managements and ways I can make a better schedule.

I had achieved my goal of getting a high mark in PE and French and I have improved in Math. I achieved them through studying hard and focusing in class. Taking notes and reviewing them was a big part of how I improving. I highlighted the important things that I needed to study and test myself either asking my family members to ask me question of just looking online for tests and quizzes. My new goals are time management, staying organized, and keeping track of homework. These were the goals I did not meet in term 1 so I am coming back to achieve them.

Hiiii! I’m back, it’s a new year I’m in grade 8 which means I’m getting older and more mature. I haven’t decided what I might do for my CAS goals but I’m sure I’ll think of something through this term.
